I was a young man then. I had never known that a song could change the world. But everything changed when I first heard Tatsuro Yamashita's "OPUS". OPUS has beautiful melodies and lyrics which conveyed a deep sense of suffering and loss. It was as if it were describing my life. The universal suffering through which we all went through as if it were one, as if we were going to die together at any moment because the music carries us away from our daily reality into an experience where we can feel love, pain, joy and other feelings that doesn't allow us to grow tired or be bored with everyday life. OPUS is timeless. It was so popular that it sold over three hundred thousand copies. This was not just one song. After OPUS, he continued to work hard creating his own style of music and the songs that followed were just as good as OPUS. I remember listening to "OPUS II" for the first time blowing away by the sound of the guitars and electric pianos combined with his unique voice which made me feel like my heart were on fire. "OPUS III" also has a very strong rock sound combined with oriental elements, showing his unique style of music, making him one of a kind in this world. My first impression of "OPUS IV" was that the music reminded me of the sound I used to listen to when I first listened to rock music after having gone through a hard time. I felt happy seeing the clear message that shows love for yourself, love for others, and looking at life positively. Just as OPUS was all over the world, many people came to know about Tatsuro's songs. The number of fans grew day by day because his songs spoke about their daily experiences and feelings. He is one of the few people who did not sing of love and romance, but rather the pain and grief they went through. He made a great contribution society and he was chosen as one of the top 100 most influential people of the 21st century. He was killed in an accident for no apparent reason, but he has left behind a legacy which will live forever even after his death. I believe Tatsuro's songs are part of my life. I want to leave them in my heart for eternity. His songs are still playing when I close my eyes at night causing me to smile to myself. I know that Tatsuro's songs will continue to play forever. He was born on February 19, 1954 in Utsunomiya, Tochigi Prefecture, Japan. The eldest of three children, he started playing the piano at the age of 4 under his mother's instruction. He went on to study music composition at the Tokyo University of the Arts. After leaving university he formed "Kawano-Tanaka" with friend Masato Kawamura in 1980. They had their first performance at the Abe Gallery in Tokyo on June 15 that same year. After this they went on an international tour performing in Japan and Europe that lasted for two years. cfa1e77820
